Insect flour, a novel commodity from the livestock subsector in North Sumatra, is making waves in the global market. This innovative ingredient, used as a food additive in pet food for cats, fish, and dogs, has seen a significant export surge.
The Belawan Agricultural Quarantine Agency facilitated the shipment of 17.8 tons of insect flour, valued at Rp. 692.6 billion, to the United States. This export represents a major milestone for PT BI, a new agribusiness player in North Sumatra, who produced the insect flour.
This success highlights the growing potential of insect-based products as a sustainable and nutritious alternative protein source. It also showcases the increasing demand for innovative ingredients in the pet food industry.
